2021.10.28 11:17 gregthesquare classical pieces for (literal) tape?

A question for you classical / avant-garde / experimental musicians:
Does anyone know of any pieces/scores where the performer has to make their own tapes? Like not simply a recording where it would have been referred to as a tape in the pre-CD/laptop days, but rather pieces that somehow exploit tape media itself - maybe through splicing, physical loops, or general lo-fi-ness? Probably Cage? Maybe Stockhausen? Thanks!

2021.10.28 11:17 Peperoniboi Since Crytek's Crysis 2&3 are such a miracle on Switch, imagine Hunt: Showdown!

Crytek truly blew our socks off with the ports of Crysis 2&3. The visual fidelity is unmatched and the games run at stable and well-paced 30fps.
Seeing what Crytek can achieve, I started to dream of Hunt: Showdown on Switch. It's another Crytek game utilizing the CryEngine, that was released 2018 on PC and 2020 on PS4/XONE. I'm not just daydreaming about the possibility of this game being ported, I think it would be a good move since the switch is lacking pvp multiplayer games, especially some aimed for the, surprisingly strong, mature audience on Nintendo's hybrid.
But what is Hunt?
Hunt: Showdown is a competitive pvpve shooter that is set in a fictional western era in which you take the role of a bounty hunter. Alone or together in a team of up to three players, you embark on a journey into a hostile land filled with zombies and other monsters to find clues and track down your target. If you found your target you need to kill that monstrosity and then leave the area with the bounty BUT be aware cause other players have the same goal and try to steal your treasure and kill you!
Hunt: Showdown is a game unlike any other, that since its release slowly started to build a cult following, and cause of constant updates more and more people become aware of it and join the fun. I own Hunt since its release back in 2018 but only started seriously playing it in 2020 and now in 2021 it became my primary game to play.
Why would Hunt be great on Switch?

  1. The game is slow and heavily rewards precision. Cause of its western inspiration, there is a strong emphasis on semi-automatic guns, rifles, and pistols. This would be perfect on Switch since gyro aiming could truly shine and 30fps wouldn't alter the experience unlike it does in other games. (Think Apex legends)
  2. Mature pvp shooter. We barely have pvp shooters on Switch, and we have even less that aim for a mature audience. Hunt fills that niche and would especially allow mothers and fathers to play it handheld, unlike PC or PS4/XONE, to prevent their kids from seeing horrific imagery.
  3. Unique. It's unlike anything out there and pretty good at what it does. The game has depth but also a fairly easy entrance for new players.
What challenges exist?
  1. Switches weak hardware. Sadly, the Switch is weak. Pretty weak actually. Games like Crysis 2&3 are heavily modified to work as well as they do and Hunt would need the same treatment. Additionally, Hunt is a multiplayer game which is already more taxing than singleplayer but it also features a large number of mobs that are demanding on the CPU.
  2. Player-base. Hunt isent free2play. On pc its price is set at 40$ which is quite something espically for a multiplayer only game and cause of Nintendos eshop policy you couldnt even give it back. Crossplay could be used though with PS5 become more present it would probably be unfair to match those together (Think of how frustrating Vigor and Apex are cause of these reasons.)
Verdict
I would love the idea of Hunt: Showdown coming to switch. Its a great game that offers gameplay you wont find anywhere else and the switch is a good choice as a platform. However, the weak hardware is probably the biggest culprit why this daydream will never fluish and that gives us another reason to finally think about a Switch Pro! Would you buy Hunt? Are you intrested?
